Srikakulam has the reputation for growing the best varieties of vegetables. As of 2015, vegetables are grown in 21,000 acres of land in the district.

The area under agriculture in Srikakulam is likely to go up to 40,000 acres now that Amaravati has become the new capital of the residual Andhra Pradesh. Farmers in the district currently export vegetables to faraway markets like Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. Once Amaravati gets built, the demand for vegetables from Srikakulam will rise. Construction of the second phase of the Vamsadhara project and laying down a distributory network for the Thotapalli project will also boost the vegetable production.
