An employee manning a tollgate at Narasannapeta, died on the spot and another person injured when a lorry rammed into it the gate on Sunday. The injured was rushed to the Government hospital.

Every police station in the district would have a Women's Desk to deal with women complaints. This was announced by the Superintendent of Police, AS Gurappa.

In a statement on Friday, he said that one of the reasons why women were not coming forward to lodge complaints was because most of the police stations in the district are managed by men only. He felt that women police would more effective handle the issues.

The 'Srikakulam Utsav-2006' will be celebrated from March 28, 2006 for three days. It is planned to synchronize the last day celebrations with Ugadi. The District Collector, A Koteswara Rao will hold a meeting at Kodi Ramamurthy stadium on Sunday to finalize the details of the Utsav.

Seven persons died and dozen more are battling for life in hospital after consuming adulterated arrack in Ratttakana village in Itchapuram police station limits on Sunday.

According to police sources, a number of persons attended the funeral of a relative and while coming back from the burial ground, some twenty persons took the spurious drink at noon.

Some began vomiting almost immediately. They were rushed to hospital. The condition of another five is still critical.

It may be recalled that the death toll in the spurious toddy case at Rattakana village near Ichapuram on Sunday claiming seven lives. The death toll rose to 12. In all more than 30 persons were taken ill after consuming toddy and 20 were battling for life at various hospitals in Ichapuram, Visakhapatnam and Berhampore.

The Minister for Rehabilitation Dharmana Prasada Rao who visited Ichapuram on Monday announced an ex gratia of Rs.1 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Director of Prohibition and Excise would conduct an inquiry in the incident.

A red alert has been sounded at all police stations, especially in vulnerable stations located along with the neighboring borders of Orissa. This follows an attack on the police station R.Udayagiri, located in an interior tribal area in Orissa by more than 100 Maoists who came in two tractors.

According to available information, three policemen and three extremists were killed in an encounter in the early hours on Friday. A tahsildar, one Sub Inspector and the Superintendent of sub jail were kidnapped. The Maoists took more than 25 weapons including Self Loading Revolvers away.

A number of inmates of the sub jail were let off. Nearly thirty women and rest were men participated in the action. They also blasted the local sub jail, an inspection bungalow and a BSNL tower.

March 26, 2006

Three members of an inter state gang have been arrested at the Chatrapur railway station. The Superintend of Police AS Gurappa speaking to media said that the gang had committed offense in Maharastra, Bhubaneswar and Bihar States. Fifty sovereigns of gold was seized from them.
