Srikakulam Municipality takes up road works at Rs. 1.8 Crores

The Srikakulam Municipality will take up Cement Road construction works costing around Rs.1.8 Crores. This was announced by the Municipal Chairperson Paidisetti Jayanthi. She said that the works will be taken up in a phased manner. She asked the Municipal Engineers to chalk out plans for the works so as to complete the works at the earliest.

Srikakulam 7th Standard Re-examinations Results announced

The results of the 7th Standard Re-examinations held last month were released. Of the 873 students who appeared for the examinations, 68.40% have passed. This was announced by the District Education Officer S Dharma Rao in a press-release.

Inter City Train from Sompeta to Visakhapatnam

The locale in the region of Sompeta have to get delighted as the new Inter City Train that runs between Visakhapatnam-Sompeta was given a green signal. The existing Inter City Train runs from Bhubaneswar to Srikakulam and Vizianagaram stations only and this causes a great inconvenience to those who are on their way to Visakhapatnam.

Sompeta has only two trains to reach Visakhapatnam. The Madras Mail stops in the morning while the Hyderabad-bound Visakhapatnam express in the post-afternoon. The newly introduced Inter-City Trains runs in the afternoon thus making the train time convenient for the commuters.

Sri Chaitanya starts Junior College in Srikakulam

Srikakulam is slowly growing to be a great place for education and this is evident with the latest entrant in the Srikakulam Education segment. The well known educational institution Sri Chaitanya started its Co-Educational Junior College in Srikakulam. Directors of Sri Chaitanya Institutions BS Rao and B Jhansi Lakshmibhai inaugurated its college – Sri Chaitanya Co-Educational Day Scholars College at Banker’s Colony near Ram Lakshman Theater.

5 Schools in Vangara gets electrification

Vangara, a small village in Srikakulam was lucky for 5 of its schools have got electrification. Many rural parts of the country are still out of access to electricity. Five Zilla Parishad Schools in the Vangara Mandal in Srikakulam were given electrification. This was stated by Mandal Educational Officer K Appalanaidu. Cheques for Rs. 5000 were given to the Head Masters of the schools.

Garimella death anniversary observed

The 111st death anniversary of renowned National Poet Sarvabhauma Garimella was observed at the District Library. The program was organized by Andhra Pradesh Sahiti Samskrutika Samkhya District Center. Srikakulam Municipal Chairperson Killana Bhojkumar took part and spoke on the occasion.

Sri Suryanarayana Temple earns Rs. 2.64 Lakhs

A total of Rs. 2,64,801 in cash, 30 grams of Gold and 700 grams of Silver was reported as the earnings from the hundi at the Sri Suryanarayana Temple in Arasavalli. This earning is for the period of June 1st and July 16th 2004. This was announced by the Assistant Commissioner M Padmalochana Rao. He said that the people involved in counting of hundi earnings shall be wearing white lungi and panchi as per the orders from the Commissioner of Endowment’s Department.

Srikakulam Under-22 Cricket Team for North Zone Cricket Competitions

The Under-22 Cricket Team from Srikakulam that will play in North Zone Cricket Competitions in Kakinada between 20 and 25th of the month was finalized. Practice sessions were conducted with a 20-member team from which the final selection was made.

Dharnas mars in Srikakulam

The grievance day at the Collectorate on Monday to accept representations from public turned out to be a day of dharnas with several students and members of various organisations staging a protest. Nearly 100 girl students staged a dharna urging the authorities to continue the facilities provided for the BC girls hostel, till recently run as sc ancillary hostel.

Students have been availing themselves of the facility since 2001.The SFI leaders who led the protest, urged the authorities to continue the facilities at least till the current batches completed their studies.

Girl dies due to diarrhea

Eight year girl died due to diarrhea on Tuesday. Due to lack of timely medical aid the girl died according to the girl's relatives. Another four girls were being treated in hospitals and their conditions said to be critical.

Lord Jagannadha Swamy temple at Palakonda burgled

Lord Jagannadha Swamy temple at Palakonda was burgled on Sunday night. The lock door was broken and silver ornaments including the goddess pustelu al valued around Rs.1500 were stolen and the police are investigating the case.
