Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University was established in 2008 in Srikakulam. It has been established by Andhra Pradesh State Government G.O vide MS No: 89 Higher Education (UE.II) Department dated June 25, 2008.

As of 2015, H Lajipathi Rai is the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Prof. S.V. Sudhakar, Department of Social Work, Andhra University is the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. The Andhra University campus at Etcherla is transferred to the administrative control of the BR Ambedkaar University.

Initially, the University was started with just the south wing of Government Degree College (Men). The acquisition of land and an old Zamindari Building at Etcherla, the Centre was shifted to its present campus on September 29, 1986.

The State government sanctioned 12 courses to the university. In 1998-99, M.Com., M. Sc. Mathematics, B.L. and M.L.I. Sc. courses were started in the University. M.B.A. and M.L. were added in 1994. MA Education course was started from the academic year 2005-2006 and M.A. English, M.Sc. Organic Chemistry and M.C.A. Courses were offered from 2006-2007. The admissions into PG courses are based on the marks of AUCET entrance examination.

The Dr. BR Ambedkar University is located at Etcherla, exactly 95 Kms away from Visakhapatnam towards Kolkata Highway.


Dr. BR Ambedkar University, Srikakulam beat SVIMS, Tirupathi by 213 runs on the inaugural day of the South Zone Inter University Cricket Championship at NITK Group-1 at Suranthkal on December 15, 2012. Batting first after winning the toss, Srikakulam scored 323 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Abdul SK scored 89(84) and was supported by Shekhar 69(89) and SH Srinivas 66(56). In reply, Rajshekhar picked up 6 wickets for 23 runs as SVIMS, Tirupathi were all out for 110 runs in 30.2 overs.



The Telugu Department of BR Ambedkar University and Sahiti Sravanthi are jointly organising a seminar on literacy on November 22, 2015 at Bapuji Kalamandir. The Vice-Chancellor of the university is the chief patron of the seminar. Nov 10, 2015

The law department of the University has organised a keynote on "Judicial and extrajudicial confessions" on November 23, 2015. The keynote address was delivered by former chairman of AP Administrative Tribunal (APAT) G Yathirajulu. Vice-Chancellor of the University H Lajipathi Rai was present on the occasion.
