Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Prasada Rao escaped unhurt when firecrackers rebounded at a function here at the Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). The minister was invited to lay foundation stone of the RIMS road. The incident happened when the Congress workers started fireworks. The Minister escaped unhurt, but two officials RIMS superintendent M Ambedkar and divisional PRO L Ramesh received minor hand injuries. The programmed was started after a delay of half-an-hour. The RIMS road is being constructed by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) with a budget of Rs. 1.9 cr.

Congress ministers lash out against YSR Congress Party president Jagan Mohan Reddy. Dharmana Prasada Rao and Kondru Murali Mohan allege that Jagan has looted crores of rupees.

The leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged protests in front of the Ponduru electrical substation demanding the government to revoke the hike in electricity tariffs. The dharna was led by BJP district president Tankala Durga Rao. State leaders V Srirama Murthy and others took part in the protests.

The Cyberabad police has arrested P Appala Naidu alias Lokesh of Srikakulam for allegedly making a series of bomb threat calls to Infosys and TCS offices across the country. The calls were made from a PCO at Western Hills Colony in KPHB, Hyderabad on March 30. He also sent an SMS to manager facilities at Infosys that a bomb has been planted in the office. The Special teams of the Police tracked the caller and nabbed him from his hostel in Ameerpet, Hyderabad on Monday. Cyberabad commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao told the media that it was found during interrogation that Lokesh has sent emails to several media houses, police and military officials about the functioning of government and the Constitution. Since no body has responded, he wanted to show his existence by terrorising people.

PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana kicked off the Congress election campaign for 2012 Narasannapeta By-election. The meeting was attended by Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Prasada Rao, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, Minister Kolusu Partha Sarathi, Satrucharla Vijaya Rama Raju, Srikakulam MP Killi Krupa Rani.

State Government appoints Pola Bhaskar as Joint Collector of Srikakulam. The current JC E Sridhar was transferred as Hyderabad Joint Collector.

April 20, 2012

The Intermediate first year examination results were released. Srikakulam comes 13th in the State.
