The Executive Engineer of Vamsadara Project K.Satyanarayana was arrested on Monday by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials while accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 from a contractor. According to the ACB sources, the Executive Engineer has demanded Rs.25,000 from a contractor for issue of a cheque Rs.11 lakhs.He demanded Rs.10,000 in the first instance and the rest at a later time. He reported the matter to the ACB officials who laid a trap and arrested the Executive Engineer while accepting the bribe.
The ACB DSP V.Madhusudhana Rao told the media that on the raids conducted, they found bonds and gold ornaments worth Rs.3 lakhs and he will be produced in Visakhapatnam ACB Special Court.

Eminent Socialist and freedom-fighter, Sardar Gowthu Latchanna died at a private hospial in Visakhapatnam after prolonged illness. He is 97 and is survived by a son and two daughters. Latchanna was born in Sompeta mandal and was associated with Gandhiji during the freedom struggle. Later he fought for the Andhra Pradesh statehood and once the state formation is done, he fought for the cause of the farmers and the labour-class. He is always associated with people's struggles. Latchanna served jailed in many occasion when representing the people.
The body of the leader was brought to his home town Sompeta. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy mourned at the death of Latchanna. In his message, he said that the state lost a veteran politician. Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Nara Chandrababu Naidu and other senior leaders and members of the party played homage to the social fighter at Sompeta.

A headmaster was arrested on Wednesday on the charges of attempting to rape two minor girls. According to sources, the head master of Garimellapeta high school took two girls to a lodge. The girls realized his intention when he tried to strip them naked. The girls escaped and informed the lodge manager who called up the police.
The police along with the parents of the girls came and the Head Master was arrested in the wee hours. A case of attempt to rape was registered and he was produced in the court. The magistrate remanded him in judicial custody.

Socialist, Freedom fighter and former Minister Sardar Gauthu Latchanna's body was cremated as per the traditions in his home town of Sompeta in full state honors. The pyre was lit by his son and Sompeta MLA Gouthu Shyam Sundar Sivaji at around noon. Latchanna died on April 19, 2006 in a private hospital in Visakhapatnam after prolonged illness.
Thousands of fans of Latchanna, supporters of the Telugu Desam Party and Congress parties and other regional political parties, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao and many officials from the Srikakulam district administration were present.
